Encyclopedias and Statistics
China Yearbooks (年鉴)
Yearbooks published in mainland China cover important events, policies, and related information in a specific field or area (e.g., 体育). Some yearbooks include summary information like gazetteers. These are good sources for getting a broad sense of what happened in a specific year and gathering basic information (e.g., dates, statistics, names, meetings and conferences, changes to policies, etc.) on that which the government finds noteworthy. It should be pointed out that yearbooks usually only include abridged versions or excerpts from policy documents, and sometimes the choice of the material that goes in - and even details of important events across years - is modified.
